A Member of Parliament for Ellembelle is alleging that the entire District Security Council in Ankobrah is involved in illegal mining, and that is why we cannot deal with the situation.
The former energy minister says the entire government structure is involved in illegal mining, and that is why Ghana is struggling to deal with the canker.
Commenting on the current state of the River Ankobrah, he said the river is deplorable and in a terrible state.
He said although the river is technically not in his constituency, he shares boundaries with the constituency of Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira.
He declared that the government that is supposed to deal with galamsey is engaged in the activity with the district assemblies and chiefs in the galamsey areas engaging in the illegal mining.
In an interview on Rainbow Radio 92.4 FM, he opined that nobody has the authority to invade a land and engage in illegal mining without the involvement of an assembly, a district, and the traditional leaders.
He charged constituents in constituencies with illegal mining activities to partner their MPs in dealing with the situation.
According to him, he has personally mobilised his people to stop some illegal mining activities, and in communities where they have found difficulty dealing with the canker, the chiefs and DISEC have ganged up to engage in illegal mining.
“DISEC has ganged up with others to allow illegal mining to go on, and so as the MP, you can only mobilise your people in dealing with the matter. I have managed to mobilise my people, and we have managed to stop galamsey in our communities. But in areas where it is difficult to stop the activities, the DISEC has ganged up others to engage in illegal mining.
“The DCE and the entire system and gang of chiefs are involved in galamsey. The whole system is involved in galamsey. That is the hard fact we have to face,” he alleged.
He further added that the community mining introduced by the government is not functioning because it is being used as a conduit for illegal mining activities.
“In all the areas where there is community mining, there is galamsey ongoing, and they are destroying our water bodies. I dare and challenge anyone to come out and deny these things,” he said.
