President Akufo-Addo has emphasised the need for the New Patriotic Party to have a majority in Parliament to ensure the successful implementation of government policies and programmes.
According to him, with the majority in Parliament, it would be difficult for the ruling government to achieve its objectives.
He has therefore appealed to electorates in Ejisu to massively vote for the NPP in the April 30, 2024, by-election.
He was speaking at the final rally organised by the NPP ahead of the election on Tuesday.
The President said it was important that he complete his term successfully, and to do so, he would need the party to maintain its majority seats in the House.
“I want you to help me successfully complete my term. I want to be able to get the programmes that are left through parliament, and I need the majority in Parliament to be able to do that.
“Therefore, even if it’s just by one vote, we must secure a majority to fulfil our mandate. And that decisive vote rests with Kwabena Boateng, the NPP’s candidate,” he said.
He also took a swipe at the independent candidate, Kwabena Owusu-Aduomi, accusing him of contesting so he would align with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to deny the NPP the majority in the house.
He was optimistic that the seat would not leave the NPP since the constituency is a stronghold of the NPP; hence, they would retain the seat.
He also refuted the allegations that the government was conspiring with the Electoral Commission (EC) to rig the elections.
