Yaw Buaben Asamoa, a private legal practitioner and former Member of Parliament for Adentan, has criticised the current levels of corruption that have currently overtaken the country.
The former director of communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who is now a leading member of Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change (M4C), lamented that corruption in Ghana is hindering economic, political, and social development.
The lawyer said the canker is a major threat to economic growth, good governance, and basic freedoms, such as freedom of speech or citizens’ right to hold governments to account.
He said the current NPP government lacks the will to deal with corruption, and the NDC is not a perfect example of dealing with the matter.
He has therefore appealed to Ghanaians to massively vote for Alan Kyerematen since he wields the political will to deal with the canker and punish all state officials who have misappropriated state funds.
He told Dr. Ren on Rainbow Radio 92.4FM that Alan will deal decisively with corruption if elected the next president because corruption affects the wellbeing of individuals, families, and the country as a whole.
He said a vote for former President John Dramani Mahama will bring us no benefits because he lacks what it takes to be elected as president.
He criticized Dr. Bawumia, claiming he was unqualified and incompetent, adding he was elected by his party through manipulation by a few individuals who intimidated those who favored a more competent, dedicated, and incorruptible candidate.
He said there are people who, when in power, do things that benefit them and their cronies and do not have the interests of the people at heart.
These challenges, he said, have worsened the unemployment rate and led to mismanagement of state resources that would have gone into the development of the country.
“That is why Alan Kyerematen is asking Ghanaians to vote massively for him. He presents a fresh face, an incorruptible leader who has been tried and tested. “Alan has the balls to deal with corruption.
He remains committed to dealing with corruption. It would be a grave offence should he fail to deal with corruption and punish those involved. As an independent candidate, he has an opportunity to do what is right. The NDC and NPP are like fibres of the same fabric when it comes to corruption, and so they have no political will to deal with it.”
On the issue of ministerial appointments, he said the aspiring president has pledged to appoint only 40 ministers as part of his efforts to deal with corruption.
