Buaben Asamoa, a campaign lead for Movement for Change, has assured Ghanaians that Alan Kyerematen’s presidency will ensure competent individuals from all political backgrounds are appointed.

He opined that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have ruled this country in a divisive manner.

He said we need a leader who is prepared to transform this country beyond party lines because the divisive type of government where the winner takes all is destroying this country and our democracy.

He explained that we need a president who will unite the nation and provide a government of national unity where he will appoint competent men and women from all parties to help the country develop.

When asked if Alan would be able to govern since he lacks representatives from Parliament, he said the constitution does not say the majority of ministers should be from one single political party.

But rather, it is up to the president to appoint the majority of ministers from Parliament, and therefore, Alan will appoint from all sides of the house.

The private legal practitioner lamented that the country has remained stagnant to the point that both parties, when in power, mismange the economy, send us to the International Monetary Fund, and plunge us into an energy crisis, aka dumsor.

The incompetence exhibited by these two parties, he said, has shifted the country into excessive taxation, depreciation of the cedis, and a high rate of unemployment.

“If we don’t take care, we will wake up one day and there will be nothing left for us to cherish.”

He underscored the need for us to move from taxation to production, where we would focus on producing some commodities, including cassava, textiles, palm kernels, and salt, and Alan has the track record of advising former President Kufour to initiate the presidential special initiative.

He argued that Alan has a track record of initiating policies and programmes that will transform the country.

“If not for politics, and if we had pushed and allowed the policies he formulated to progress steadily through the President’s Special Initiative, we would have developed beyond our current state and not gone to the IMF and sought financial aid.
