Security Analyst Adiib Saani says the death of a soldier in Millennium City, Kasoa, in the Central Region exposes the failure in our land administration system.
He expressed deep sorrow over the alleged murder of a soldier due to a dispute over land ownership.
The military officer in question was shot dead on Tuesday, April 30, during a dispute over land at Millennium City, a community in Kasoa in the Central region.
Two others narrowly escaped with their lives following the unfortunate incident.
The deceased and others were found to have confronted individuals working on land they claimed was theirs.
Adiib Saani expressed regret over the soldier’s death.
The incident he noted has exposed how poorly we deal with administration in Ghana.
He said “We have challenges with regards to security officers involved with land litigation in Ghana, and generally, what has happened is an indication of systemic failure in our land administration in Ghana.
We have failed miserably so far as land administration is concerned. I am indicted in the sense that we are in the 21st century; in countries like Rwanda and Uganda, technology has been deployed in land administration. When you purchase land in these countries, they use triangulation to check if the land you are purchasing is genuine before you pay for it. The World Bank gave us money for land administration projects one and two and yet, we are still struggling with multiple sales of land.”
The issues can be attributed to the inefficiency of law enforcement and the ineffectiveness of our justice administration system, he argued.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM he said “It is not everyone willing to litigate over a land for over five years in court, so several land owners prefer to use land guards, hooliganism, or security officers.” As a result, the neighbourhood has become a hotbed for landguardism, hooliganism, and lawlessness. People have died as a result of land disputes in the region. This isn’t the first time this has happened, so what are we going to do about it?
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of one suspect in connection with the alleged shooting of a soldier in Kasoa.
The suspect, Benlord Ababio, reportedly shot the soldier at Millennium City on April 30, 2024.
The police added that the suspect is currently in custody, assisting with their investigations.
