Armed police officers stormed UTC Friday morning, evicting some traders selling in front of stores in the area.
The traders include people who deal in phone accessories, shoes, electronic gadgets, bread, cakes, and toiletries, among others.
The armed officers brought a truck in which they were loading the items of the traders.
Details reaching Rainbow Radio 87.5FM indicate that the shop owners complained that the hawkers were blocking them and interferring with their business.
Anthony Amponsah, Secretary of the UTC Hawkers Association, disclosed that the businesswoman and owner of the building, Efua Otiwaa Frimpong, aka Agatha, dragged them to court sometime ago, and the court ruled in her favour, instructing the hawkers to vacate the premises.
However, the UTC Hawkers Association filed a stay of execution, and so they are wondering why the armed police officers stormed the area to evict them.
He questioned why the police would follow the businesswoman to come and evict them when there is a stay of execution currently pending.
According to him, the police have warned them not to return to the pavement, or they will be arrested and prosecuted.
“The woman dragged us to court and prayed that we would be evicted. The Court ruled in her favour. But we have filed a stay of execution, and so we are shocked that these armed police officers are here to evict us. We are currently in contact with our lawyer on what the best way forward is,” he added.
