Nii Boye Layea, the Chief Executive of Okaikoi North Municipality, has urged Natipnal Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters to cease painting projects in the municipality in their colors.
The persons responsible for the painting were threatened with arrest and prosecution as it was a criminal offense.
According to the MCE, the assembly has no authority over painting projects, its colours speak less of a political party.
He advised the NDC and its supporters to wait until they are in power to paint all government projects in their colours if they wish to do so.
He issued the warning when he inspected the area following the recent theft of crash barriers mounted on the N1 Highway by some unknown persons.
While inspecting the area, he asked the police to be vigilant and intensify security to help curb the menace.
He called on the residents to help the police with information that could lead to the arrest of the culprits.
He said the Assembly undertook the responsibility of restoring some of the defaced properties; however, they encountered resistance in their efforts.
In 2021, the assembly embarked on a replacement exercise to replace galvanised crash barriers that were stolen at the newly constructed Pokuase Interchange.
To forestall their being vandalised, the new barriers, covering 40 feet, were secured with bolts and knots and also welded, thereby making it difficult to remove them.
However, the individuals responsible for the theft continue to engage in criminal activities, including stealing crash barriers.
The MCE, who expressed worry over the matter, warned that those behind it would be prosecuted if arrested.
One other thing he did not understand was the role of the police in securing the area and arresting the culprits.
He said when you look at the intersections, the cameras that the police control are fixed all over by the central government; hence, it was expected that they may see it and take action.
He lamented and ranted that all the crash barriers are getting finished, and the danger is that where they are removing the barriers are places where the cars could fall off the interchange.
He then took a swipe at the NDC, accusing some of its supporters of defacing some projects in the municipality with their colours.
“Even for me, I don’t think it is right for me to paint the projects I have done with the assembly colours, let alone the party colours. They don’t deserve to own anything they don’t have or haven’t done. And so, I am appealing to them; they should stop because I will cause their arrests, and we will prosecute them if we see it again.
If they think they are coming to power, they should wait; if they come to power, they can paint everything that belongs to the government. It is their own cup of tea.”
