A group calling itself Concerned Residents of Kasoa has expressed its displeasure at the attribution of criminal activities and wrongdoings to their community.
The concerned residents indicated that even when some tonging criminals occurred in a different community, it was attributed to Kasoa.
Mr. Akwasi Addo, a convenor for the Concerned Residents of Kasoa, said the situation is affecting the area and depriving them of better opportunities.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he asked Ghanaians to desist from doing that.
He was reacting to the shooting and killing of a soldier over a land dispute at Millennium City, which several people say is located in Kasoa.
However, Mr. Akwasi Addo says the area is not in Kasoa.
He said we are unhappy with the seeming deliberate effort to attribute any wrongdoing to Kasoa by the media and other individuals.
He said “Kasoa has been mentioned in publications regarding criminal and other bad happenings, even when those cases did not happen in the area.
We have become more alarmed as the police, in a statement issued on the shooting of a military personnel, expressly mentioned the location as Kasoa, even though the incident happened right at the District Police Command in Millenium City, which categorically falls under Gomoa East District.”
It must be noted that the Millennium City where the shooting took place is natively known as Gomoa Bantama and falls directly under Gomoa Fetteh in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region, while Kasoa falls within the Awutu Senya East Municipality.”
This is unfortunate and the bad name tag associated with Kasoa is affecting our business potential.”
He appealed to the media and Ghanaians to stop attributing all criminal activities committed in other communities to Kasoa.
He stressed the need for people to be diligent when incidents like this occur in order not to draw their community into unnecessary negative reporting and reactions.
