Ghanaian reggae and Kuchoko artiste Blakk Rasta has said that the current state of journalism in Ghana is declining.
Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he said compared to the past, we are witnessing a decline in the quality of work being done by practitioners.
Blakk Rasta, who is also a broadcaster, stated that he values and appreciates the profession because of its impact on society, but he is concerned about the current status of journalism.
He noted that some practitioners had abandoned ethics and professional norms in favour of monetary gain.
The advent of social media, he argued, has had some level of negative impact on journalism, despite the positives.
“Journalism was very good in the past, but unfortunately, the level of professionalism has fallen or dropped. We have to do our best and raise the standards again.
The introduction of social media has affected the quality of work and professionalism.
Because of monetization on social media, some people are prepared to do anything at all just to be able to get the money. When the mind is all about the money, the quality of work will be affected. That is the problem we have today. But journalism is a profession that is admirable,” he stressed.
