Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II says the top priority for us as a people now must be the reclamation of our environment from the ravages of illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
He said we cannot allow a few greedy miscreants to destroy our water bodies, which were handed over to us by our forefathers.
He advised that we deal with the issue through every conceivable strategy.
He made the call at the climax of the 25th anniversary celebration of his ascension to the Golden Stool as the 16th ruler of the Asante kingdom.
“Our top priority must be the reclamation of our environment from the ravages of galamsey. We cannot be the generation that destroys the most gracious heritage bequeathed to us by our forefathers to satisfy the greed of a few miscreants. For whatever it takes we must defeat this scourge,” he said.
Asantehene advocated for Ghana’s economic revitalization, focusing on economic cultivation and empowering entrepreneurs.
On the 2024 upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections, he underscored the need for Ghanaians to be vigilant to safeguard the democratic process as the country prepares for general elections.
“This year is another election year. Our political leaders are already on a campaign trail and intend many months of combating campaigning ahead. After all our past experiences, we should make sure that our democracy is saved.
“Nonetheless, we need to know that we cannot take things for granted. We must be alert to avoid anything that will derail the electoral process.
“People need the right environment where they can make informed choices in the interest of the nation,” he added.
