Parliament has authorised a loan facility of $150 million from the World Bank to cover the ongoing Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) project.
The project is part of attempts to solve flooding issues in the city.
The Minority opposed the loan’s approval, but the Majority prevailed due to their numbers.
According to the Minority, it was unable to endorse the credit arrangement since the administration bungled a lending facility worth $200 million issued for the GARID project.
Mr. Emmanuel Bedzrah, a member of the Works and Housing Committee, expressed his concerns, stating, “If the whole Odaw [river] has not been drained for two years and $200 million has been allocated and the Odaw river has not been drained or desilted or dredged I don’t see why we need additional 150million again.
However, the approval was granted via a headcount vote that supported the majority caucus.
