An eight-year-old boy who went swimming with his two other siblings has drowned.
The minor drowned in River Adjei at Nurses Quarters in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
Reporting the incident on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, our reporter, Oheneba Ademah, revealed that the boy went to the riverside with two of his elder brothers on Sunday.
However, while they were swimming, the boy drowned.
The two other brothers left the river and went home without telling anyone what had happened.
When they were asked the whereabouts of their brother, they told their parents they had no idea where he was.
A search party went in search of the boy, but he was not found.
A neighbour later told the parents he saw the boy and his two other brothers heading to the river.
Later, they admitted that their brother drowned while they were swimming, but they were too scared to tell anyone.
The body of the deceased was found on Monday, May 20, floating on the river.
The body has since been retrieved and sent to the mortuary.
Meanwhile, residents have asked traditional authorities to perform various rites to prevent similar incidents.
They stated that this was not the first time a child perished in the river.
