The Majority in Parliament has debunked allegations by the Minority regarding the recruitment of security services.
The Minority Caucus on Monday, May 20, 2024, accused the government of recruiting NPP thugs into our security agencies.
Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, alleged that all parliamentary candidates of the NPP and sitting NPP MPs have been asked to submit the names of 30 persons each for consideration.
However, the Majority caucus has described the choice as false.
The Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament, Mrs. Patricia Appiaagyei, addressing a press conference today, Tuesday, May 21, 2024, described the assertion by the Minority as ludicrous.
To get, it is mathematically and administratively wrong to suggest that eight thousand two hundred and fifty new recruits could be absorbed into the security forces in a system that traditionally accommodates between a thousand and two hundred annually.
She accused Dr. Ato Forson of making false claims to deliberatly distort reality and a malicious fabrication aimed at undermining the integrity of the government.
“The Minority’s assertion that NPP parliamentary candidates, including 138 sitting MPs, have each been given 30 recruitment slots is mathematically and administratively ludicrous,” she said.
“To suggest that 8,250 new recruits could be absorbed into our security forces in a system that traditionally accommodates between 1,000 to 1,200 recruits annually shows a profound misunderstanding of the operational and financial frameworks of our security institutions,” she said.
“The claims by Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson are a deliberate distortion of reality and a malicious fabrication aimed at undermining the integrity of the government. Such allegations serve only to provoke unwarranted tension and foster an environment of mistrust and political rivalry that our country does not need.”
“We urge the Minority to refrain from spreading misinformation and to respect the intelligence of the Ghanaian public. Such tactics are beneath the dignity of our democratic processes and could potentially endanger the peace and security of our nation,” she said.
She revealed that Interior Minister Henry Quartey had already outlined the government’s recruitment strategy, which seeks to give a second chance to qualified Ghanaians who applied previously but were not selected.
Meanwhile, the Majority Chief Whip, Mr. Frank Annor Dompreh, has challenged the Minority Leader to provide evidence to support his allegations.
