Communications specialist Saani Daara has revealed that private legal practitioner Kwesi Nyantakyi has no interest in returning to take up any position in the football fraternity.
The former Ghana Football Association spokesperson said that despite some calls from football lovers for Mr. Nyantakyi to return to a top-level position in Ghana football, the former GFA President has declined the offer.
He disclosed this in an exclusive interview with Rainbow Sports.
He indicated that Mr. Nyantakyi was prepared to offer any form of consultation or recommend measures that could help transform the game of football in Ghana.
However, Nyantakyi was not prepared to contest any election for a position in the football sector.
Mr. Nyantakyi, who is a former Fifa Council member and vice president of the Confederation of African Football, was banned for life by Fifa in October 2018 for breaking bribery and corruption rules.
The former GFA President was filmed by investigators for allegedly accepting $65,000 from an undercover reporter.
The footage of Nyantakyi taking $65,000 was captured by journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, and BBC Africa’s investigations unit, Africa Eye, received exclusive access to the footage.
After an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, Kwesi Nyantakyi’s lifetime ban was reduced to 15 years.
“Kwesi Nyantakyi is banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity at national and international level for a period of 15 years, commencing on October 29, 2018,” Cas said at the time it reduced the ban.
For years, some Indivials have urged Mr. Nyantakyi to return to the game and use his knowledge and skills to help transform it.
But Mr. Daara says that despite his several appeals to Mr. Nyantakyi, he has refused to return to the game he once loved.
He was quick to add that Mr. Nyantakyi was willing to offer any type of advise to individuals who came to him.
“Mr. Nyantakyi will not return to football. He has no interest. He will no longer and return to football, but he is still committed to providing any type of consultation to those who seek it. If you counsel him on football-related matters, he is willing to make recommendations. But, to be clear, Nyantakyi will not play football again. I have chatted with him multiple times, but he is unwilling to return.
“If Kurt Okraku needs advice on football, the league, or anything else, he should consult him,” he said.
