Saani Daara, a former spokesperson for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has urged the senior national team, the Black Stars, to stand out and be considered among the finest as they prepare for the world qualifying series.
He reminded the players who would have the opportunity to play for the team in the 2026 World Cup that they were on a national mission.
He opined that the tournament is not only for them since other lives depend on them.
He argued that their ability to qualify for the World Cup reflects the future aspirations of the entire nation.
“The players should be reminded that their ability to qualify for the World Cup is a national assignment. Qualifying for the World Cup is something they should take seriously. The players should remember that the destinies of people are tied to the World Cup. I am serious, and this is not a joke.
Some people have planned their lives around this tournament. Others want to travel to Mexico; others want to travel to Canada through this tournament and watch the games, and so the players should remember that if they fail, all these people would have their lives thwarted. The players should be dedicated. The games they play are on behalf of the nation.
They should therefore do their best on the field of play, and we as Ghanaians will also pray for them,” he added.
Meanwhile, he has voiced faith in Coach Otoo Addo, saying that with Ghanaians’ backing, our national team will play better.
“I know Otoo Addo will uplift the team once again. I employ him to select a team that is prepared and dedicated to making the country proud. Chris Hougton destroyed our team through his incompetence, but that is now history. The way forward is that Otoo Addo is coming back to uplift the team to its former glory.
There are those who have suggested that some players be axed, and I support such suggestions. I will, however, not mention any names. But the bottom line is that there are some players who must exit to make way for new ones. That is the job for the coach to do,” he added.
