The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Forestry Commission (FC), John Allotey, has called on all stakeholders in the country to help make this year’s Green Ghana Day a success.
He has therefore urged all stakeholders and local authorities to actively participate and ensure the event’s success.
The CEO announced that everything is set for Green Ghana Day, scheduled for June 7, 2024.
He emphasised the importance of not just planting trees but also monitoring those planted in previous years to ensure they are thriving.
He made the remarks when he visited the Western regional minister to engage the teams and stakeholders, ensuring that the seedlings are distributed and planted properly in the region.
He stated that the Commission has made seedlings available for everybody who wants to plant trees on June 7, 2024.
He revealed they have made available different types of seedlings, including fruits, timbers, and others, for beautification.
“We are encouraging residents in the Western region to participate in the exercise. We’ve made seedlings available for those who want to participate in the exercise. We have different types of seedlings available, including fruits, timber, the ones for beautification, and others. That is why I am appealing to residents and Ghanaians to participate in the exercise.”
On his part, the regional minister, Kwabena Otchere Darko Mensah, said they were prepared for the exercise.
He said they were prepared to support and participate in the exercise.
He noted that the region is known to be a forest zone, and about 60% of forest products are from the region, so if there is an initiative to help the forests regenerate, then they are in full support of it.
The Green Ghana Day is a positive initiative, and so we have decided as the regional coordinators to support the exercise. We will regenerate our forests since we have decided to plant more trees,” he added.
The tree-planting exercise was launched in April of this year’s Green Ghana Day project with a call on the citizenry to commit to come together to plant and grow at least 10 million trees for a greener tomorrow.
