Dr. Clement Apaak, Member of Parliament for Builsa South, has taken a swipe at the Daily Graphic newspaper after it published a front-page report about the latest survey, which showed Vice President Dr. Mahamudu ahead of former President John Dramani Mahama in the presidential election.
He wonders why the national daily would devote a full page to what he describes as a fabricated survey done by a university lecturer who he claims is a member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to the survey, presidential candidate of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (NPP), leads as the preferred presidential candidate with 38.9%, closely followed by John Dramani Mahama (NDC) with 36.1%.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (NPP) leads in Ahafo, Ashanti, Bono, Central, Eastern, North East, Western, and Western North.
The baseline survey was conducted by Professor Smart Sarpong, Director of Research and Innovation at Kumasi Technical University (KsTU).
When it comes to the most preferred political party for Election 2024, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) topped with 38.8% against the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 34.5%.
The NDC leads in popularity as the political party respondents are likely to support in the coming election as of April 2024.
Per the findings, the popularity of the NDC is higher than that of the NPP in Bono East, Greater Accra, Northern, Oti, Savannah, Upper East, Upper West, and Volta.
The survey shows that the NPP and NDC are on par in terms of popularity in the Western North.
The story was published in the Thursday, June 6, 2014, Daily Graphic edition.
Dr. Apaak is dissatisfied with the national newspaper’s decision to feature the story and survey on its top page. In his opinion, the survey was fabricated and did not accurately reflect research findings.
He questioned why the publication did not provide Global Info Analytics the same amount of space when it published its research, which named former President John Dramani Mahama as the most popular candidate for president.
The lawmaker stated that the Daily Graphic has allowed itself to be used by the NPP to forward its political goal, emphasising that the results of a fabricated survey performed by an NPP member will not change the narrative that Ghanaians prefer Mr. Mahama as the next president.
“No quantum of concocted polls by a pro NPP lecturer like Dr. Smart Sarpong will save the failed, corrupt, and insensitive NPP its candidate, Bawumia. We are alert and will expose every plot and scheme to rig the election for the NPP and Bawumia. Is it not interesting that all the polls by Musah Danqauh, all in favour of John Dramani Mahama, never got space in the Daily Graphic, yet one cooked poll by a proNPP lecturer is slapped on the front page of the Graphic and every other pro NPP paper? I guess the Daily Graphic is fast becoming pro NPP/Bawumia paper too. It’s a pity that a national Daily has chosen to allow itself to be used for partisan propaganda. Ghanaians will not be hoodwinked.”
