Puis Kwanin Asuedu, one of the victims shot at the Ablekuma Central Constituency Collation Centre during the 2020 general election, has reported difficulty recovering from the tragedy.
Pius Kwanin Asiedu, a journalist, narrated that his ordeal has made his life incredibly tough. Pius
Kwanin Asiedu claimed on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s Frontline that, despite five separate surgeries, his condition has not improved.
Speaking to host Kwabena Agyapong, Pius lamented his efforts to secure a job after his condition yielded no results.
He disclosed that despite the several applications he has submitted to different institutions, he has been denied, despite being competent.
According to him, the employers told him he could not be employed due to his condition.
He added that the least price for his procedure was GHC 14,000.
He said he underwent four surgery at Ridge Hospital and the fifth at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
The first surgery he had, he noted, was paid for by the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA).
Other individuals, he said, have supported him, but his family has come in to support him financially for the other surgeries.
Pius further disclosed that he could no longer pay for his rent and had to move out and go back to his family house.
He said, “After my fourth surgery, the doctor who conducted the four surgeries at Ridge Hospital advised me to consider the next surgery abroad since we don’t have the technology to conduct a successful one in Ghana.
So he gave me an open referral to either travel to South Africa or India. He told me that if I do it in Ghana, it will only be for bone drafting, and that may not improve my condition. He explained to me that I had suffered an eight-centimetre gap following the shooting incident.
I am still going through severe pain. After the five surgeries, my condition has still not improved. The cost of the surgeries was between Ghc18,000 and Ghc22,000. The cheapest from it was GHC 14,000. GJA sponsored the first surgery. Someone from the Jubilee House also supported me with GHC 15,000, but after that, the person did not respond to me again. So the three other surgeries were done with support from my family.”
He has therefore appealed to individuals, philanthropists, and institutions to support him in going through the final surgery, which he is hopeful will correct his condition and restore him to his previous state.
People who wish to support him can reach him at 0246363183.
The case is currently before the Accra Circuit Court.
The case has been adjourned for the sixth straight time.
It involves the national security officer who allegedly shot five people, including a Pius, at the Ablekuma Central Constituency Collation Centre during the 2020 general election.
