President Akufo-Addo has today, June 10, 2024, officially commissioned The Law House, a ten-story edifice in Accra, to serve as the new office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice.
The Law House project began in 2001 and was initially expected to be completed in May 2004, but the project was terminated and re-awarded in January 2023.
The house is a ten-story structure with a two-level basement.
It has facilities including conference rooms, 130 office spaces, 120 parking lots, and an eating area.
Speaking at the commissioning, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo stated that the commissioning of The Law House symbolises the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) strong dedication to upholding the tenets of the rule of law.
“The completion of The Law House stands as a testament to the NPP government’s commitment to address the age-old office accommodation problem that has plagued the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice for far too long. This state-of-the-art facility will now house the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice to provide a conducive environment for the official administration of the law in our country.”
“It symbolises our strong dedication to upholding the tenets of the rule of law, which is the bedrock of any thriving democracy. The rule of law ensures that no one is above the law, and that is the concept of equality before the law is respected.
“That justice is administered fairly and impartially under the protection of the rights and freedoms of every citizen. It is the foundation upon which we build an equitable, free, and just society.”
Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame has pledged to relocate regional offices of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice to three-storey buildings, ending the practice of state Attorneys operating from makeshift structures.
Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo also highlighted the need for dedicated resources for legal education reforms and projects to enhance justice delivery, while acknowledging the importance of building courts.
The building is adjacent to the High Court complex.
