Political activist Sekou Nkrumah has called political party manifestos a joke.
As someone who has consulted for certain parties, the writer believes that the manifestos released by political parties in the run-up to an election do not accurately reflect Ghana’s genuine difficulties.
He said that these manifestos contained solely English, which the parties read to Ghanaians.
According to Sekou Nkrumah, the manifestos lack vision and are not well thought out.
He has therefore urged think tanks to take on the challenge, and help political parties in designing their manifestos.
“So those things are a joke; there is not much thought into them. So there is a need for a lot of think tanks to be involved in developing these manifestos. The political parties develop manifestos that do not reflect the realities on the ground. They don’t come with action,” he added.
He said there was a need for a mindset transformation, although it would not be easy.
He stated that we cannot continue to have underperforming leaders in government, emphasising the importance of change until it is right.
He added that it is not enough to just change; we all have a responsibility to ensure that our leaders perform better and make the country transform.
He also urged the country’s professionals to be bold in speaking out about the country’s problems.
The experts in these fields should also speak out. Economists who understand the economy should speak on issues affecting the country, but we should let those who are not biassed and politically tainted but are candid and will speak to the real issues affecting us speak on the issues, he told Dr. Ren on Rainbow Radio 92.4FM.
