Kwesi Korang, the founder of Patriot Ghana, an organisation affiliated with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to cease inciting its supporters ahead of the 2024 general elections.
He asserted that the NDC is psyching its members into believing that it would win the elections, and that any other outcome is a rigged process.
He stated such an approach is not politically prudent and could have serious consequences not just for the NDC but also for the country.
Kwesi Korang noted that the party must realise that there are always two possible outcomes in an election: you either win or lose, therefore prepare for either.
“The NDC is convincing its members that the 2024 general elections are a must-win for them, and that if they lose, the process is rigged, therefore their members should go out and fight. This is politically unwise and poses a threat to the state’s security. The NDC and its leadership must stop inviting and preparing members for violence.
To party followers, I will counsel them to exercise caution and not support anyone who encourages them to engage in violence during elections. These leaders, who may be selected as ministers, MCEs, CEOs, and others, will not join you in the violence, but I am aware that some of you will engage in such lawlessness.”
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Kwesi Korang maintained that the NDC ought to demonstrate leadership and ensure that they commit to peaceful elections.
“We cannot allow this country to be destabilised because of a few people’s desire to gain power at any cost. When this country devolves into chaos, we shall all face hardships. The country is already in turmoil, and any additional threat to our stability and security will be detrimental.
What would you gain by engaging in this lawlessness? We need to tread carefully. Some opposition members are desperate to gain power and will go to any length to get it. I hope we elect someone who is concerned about the country’s growth so that we may go forward.”
