An 18-year-old mother of a two-week-old baby girl born without lower limbs (limbs) in Twifo-Bonsaho, a rural community in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa region of the Central Region, has threatened to kill herself and her child.
Grace Addobea, the young mother, claims she is being humiliated by the residents, and as a result, she has considered killing the baby and committing suicide.
Speaking to the media, she stated that she had received disparaging comments from certain individuals in the vicinity since her baby’s birth.
‘I experienced intense frustration and shame when her community members gathered in groups to gossip about me and the baby.’
Grace Adobea described her situation as unfortunate since during her pregnancy she received prenatal care at the Wassa-Ateiku Health Center, where no indication of the baby’s condition was detected.
In her ninth month, she was referred to the Christian Hospital in Wassa-Ateiku due to a lack of blood for a safe delivery, which was confirmed to be a breech position and necessitated a cesarean section.
Three days after being notified of her position, she gave birth at home with the help of an experienced traditional midwife from her tribe.
Meanwhile, she confessed that the baby’s father, Paa Kwesi, had abandoned her.
“Because of my current circumstances, I have considered killing the baby and committing suicide. This is my first delivery experience, and I have encountered this problem. I am frustrated. The father of the baby has also abandoned me. When I told him I was pregnant, he said he wasn’t the father. However, his mother paid me visits on a regular basis. “I am appealing to individuals and philanthropists to assist in the care of the baby,” she stated.
