The National Labour Commission (NLC) met with the leadership of the MELPWU, and I structured them to call off the strike and re-engage in negotiations with the government.

Leaders of the Union then met with members, where it was unanimously agreed for them to suspend the strike and negotiate with the government over their working conditions.

The union members went on strike on June 17 over the government’s delay in addressing their service conditions.

General Secretary of the MELPWU, Dr. Cephas Akortor, said to journalists today, Friday, June 21, 2024, that members have been asked to resume work as negotiations continue.

“We have resolved to put on hold the ongoing industrial action and further advise all members of the union to return to work at their various places of work by Monday 24th June 2024 to out their workplace in readiness for full operation on Tuesday 25th June 2024.”
