A 17-year-old suspected to be an armed robber has been beaten to pulp in an alaleged failed robbery operation at Domeabra-Police Tent opposite the Sky Roofing System in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
The young boy, identified as Joel Nyarko, is said to be part of a gang that came to the area to rob but could not escape after their cover was blown.
According to the available information, the young man, who is currently in serious condition, arrived with a group of suspected armed robbers in a car to loot the community, but their cover was blown, and the gang fled with the vehicle, leaving the suspect behind.
An enraged mob attacked the culprit and allegedly beat him to pulp.
He sustained various forms of injuries, including a broken left foot and a series of cuts on the body and around his face.
He was later conveyed with a wheelbarrow from the community to the roadside, naked.
An eyewitness named C-D who was narrating the incident said that after he was dumped naked at the roadside, one Okada rider who was passing by made the comment that “you people come to steal, and we, the Okada riders, have been accused of it.”
After making that comment, the okada rider allegedly hacked off the suspect’s right ear.
The suspect has now denied being a member of a robbery group.
He claimed to have come to the area to do something, but the group of guys from nowhere attacked him, robbing him of his belongings, including an iPhone and some cash in local and dollar currencies.
The Amanfrom Police sent the suspect to the hospital for treatment and contacted his father.
An investigation is currently underway to identify those who assaulted the young boy.
