Alhaji Mohammed Nasiru, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team, mocked Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s choice of running mate.
The NDC communicator says the man Dr. Bawumia settled on is not a serious person for such a serious office as the Office of the Vice President of the Republic.
The presidential candidate of the NPP, Dr. Bawumia, has settled on Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh as his running mate.
He has since submitted his name to the party, and President Akufo-Addo is said to have given his blessing.
Commenting on this, Alhaji Mohammed Nasiru of Manhyia South is not a credible and competent candidate to threaten the NDC.
He said the name is not even official as we speak, which exposes Dr. Bawumia as an incompetent and indecisive person. He lacks courage as the presidential candidate. The NPP’s constitution requires that after the election of the candidate, the person should have the courage to name his running mate. President Akufo-Addo demonstrated leadership in naming Dr. Bawumia as his running mate, even in the face of opposition. On the three occasions he was elected as presidential candidate, he demonstrated that he was the leader of the NPP and named his running mate.
But when you examine who Dr. Bawumia is, you will realise that he lacks the courage to name his running mate. Some NPP members know that the running mate, the Vice President, has settled on is incompetent and does not match the credibility, integrity, and competence of Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate for former President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he said the NDC’s running mate is coming into this election with two credentials, which include academia and the Central Region.
“She is an astute academician. She is not just a person in these constituencies. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang has a solid track record in academia. She is the first female vice chancellor in Ghana’s history. The selection of Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh is not scary. The man who selected him says he is a mate, so we should give him the steer to take over, so why should we be surprised? The NDC is not scared of Napo, as he is affectionately called.
Dr. Opoku-Prempeh, as a minister of education, messed up, and that was why he was sacked from that ministry. His level of incompetence in the education ministry is dangerous and alarming. He cannot compare himself to Prof. Opoku-Agyemang. In all these fields, no one can challenge the fact that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang does not have what it takes. She is not only competent but also credible.
Her performance as minister was splendid.
She was the one who successfully implemented the free SHS policy, which started with the day students under former President John Dramani Mahama. When you compare her to Napo, there is no competitiveness. NAPO lacks that finesse.
He was removed from the Education Ministry and sent to the Energy Ministry. When you ask about his achievements as Energy Minister, there is nothing you can point to. His own party members believe he is incompetent. There is no comparison between him and our running mate. Just wait and see what will happen when he is officially announced as the running mate.
The NPP itself will expose him for his wrongdoings. There are a lot of issues surrounding him. The NPP, as the party knows, is not fit to lead the charge as their running mate. The issues surrounding the death of the late John Kumah and his name attached to the controversies are all part of the issues that the NPP themselves will release in the coming days about him.”
