Mr. Abubakari Yakubu, popularly known in the political space as “Baba Amando,” the Sunyani East Constituency Communication Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has confirmed that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has settled on Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh as his running mate for the 2024 president election.
He disclosed this in an interview via Zoom on Rainbow Radio 92.4 FM, United Kingdom.
The campaign team member of the presidential candidate of the NPP stated categorically that the running mate is the former Education Minister.
He confirmed this in an interview with host Dr. Ren.
News broke on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, that the Vice President submitted the name of his running mate tothe party and President Akufo-Addo, who advised and gave them his blessings.
Confirming this news, Baba Armando said,
“That is the truth. NAPO is Bawumia’s running mate. All the other names that came up were equally good. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum is a fantastic man. But the fact of the matter is that we all know that the flag bearer has seen that Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh is the one who can mobilise the 89% we want in the Ashanti region and beyond. NAPO is the running mate.
He presented the name to the president, and Nana Addo advised and gave them his blessings. Insha Allah, Dr. Opoku-Prempeh is Bawumia’s running mate. He has a track record and can mobilise and command the grassroots in the Ashanti region.
He will work together with Chairman Wontumi and others to secure that victory for us in the region and beyond,” he added.
Meanwhile, he remains optimistic that the NPP would break the eight-year-jinx through their strategy.
“We will break the eight-year jinx. “We will certainly break the eight, and we will do so strategically,” he stated.
He also disputed the allegations against the running mate that he was arrogant, incompetent, and messed up at the Education Ministry.
“These speculative conjectures against NAPO will fail. He oversaw the successful implementation of the free SHS policy. Adutwum is expanding on NAPO’s achievements in the Education Ministry. That is why I agreed that Adutwum is similarly good, but NAPO is currently considerably superior because he has the advantage. He did extremely well and thrived in the Education Ministry. I can also confirm that Dr. Bawumia consulted widely before deciding on his running mate. He submitted his name to everyone who mattered in the Ashanti region as well as the other regions. That’s why the announcement was delayed: he was consulting with people about his running mate.”
