President Akufo-Addo claims that while his government has given Elmina and the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem constituency their due share of the national cake, they have not rewarded his party with enough votes.
He said the government has initiated several projects, including the Elmina Fishing Harbour and the Elmina Sea Defence.
However, the constituency has not reciprocated by voting for his New Patriotic Party in either the 2016 or 2020 national elections. He explained that, despite the fact that the constituency is believed to be dominated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), this did not deter him from moving forward with his planned infrastructure projects for the area.
He has therefore appealed to constituents of KEEA to vote massively for the NPP in the upcoming general election, both in the presidential and parliamentary elections.
In the 2024 general election, the President promised to ensure that Ghana experienced free, fair, transparent, and violence-free elections.
The President pledged that his government will ruthlessly confront any individual or group that aims to disrupt the peace and stability enjoyed in the country during this year’s election.
Nana Addo further remarked that he can’t afford to hand over power to a successor who sees nothing good under his administration in the person of former President John Dramani Mahama.
“I have given you a fair share of the national cake, but you have not appreciated my efforts. Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem has not given the NPP massive votes, but I have given you your fair share of the national cake. You have seen what I have done for you.”
He added, “As we prepare for the general elections, two things are important to me, and that is for us to organise a free, fair, credible, and transparent election. It is my wish that this election is organised peacefully without any recorded violence. This is an election, not a war. I know you understand this. It will not be under my administration that we witness a violent process. We will hold the elections peacefully, and the winner will be declared and the loser will have to accept defeat. Ghana is a beacon of hope and a shining example, and we have a duty to protect it.”
The other issue is about who will take over from me. I want to hand over power to someone who will protect my legacies. I cannot hand over power to someone whose interest is to destroy the gains I have made. I cannot hand over power to someone who sees nothing good in my administration. Mahama does not value the free SHS—one district, one factory. Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the only one who can continue with my good works and protect the gains we have chalked so far.”
