Enyimba FC striker Gordon Kusi Brooklyn, of Ghanaian descent, hopes to be given more playing time so that he may perform well for the team.

According to him, while he has demonstrated excellent playing abilities since joining the squad, he believes he might do far better than he did in the previous season if given more playing time by his team.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Rainbowradioonline.com, the former Ghana Division One League Zone Two striker for Asokwa Deportivo SC said the style and pattern of play in Nigeria are different from those in Ghana, but he has adapted despite the difficulties he encountered.

He stated that this is his first time playing for a team outside of Ghana, but the experience has been positive despite the hurdles.

“Unfortunately, I was unable to acquire much playing time. I wasn’t given much playing time, but with little I had, I was able to prove myself… I played three matches, I believe; we won two and lost one. My performance was not horrible. I made good use of the time I was given. If I had had more opportunities, I would have been able to demonstrate my talent and abilities. When you meet a coach who doesn’t like your pattern, it’s tough for him to give you much playing time. If the coach does not trust you, he would find it difficult to offer you the opportunity.”

He also claimed that he has indicated his willingness to do much more if given the opportunity with the team’s previous coach, Finidi George, and has given him assurances of improved possibilities in the upcoming season.

He stated that the caretaker coach, who took over for Finidi George, offered him some playing time.

He mentioned Finidi George had league-winning players, so benching them and suddenly placing him would be difficult.

He stated that it appears he is playing in a league that makes it difficult for international players to have more playing time.

In terms of player welfare, he believes Nigeria outperforms Ghana, stating that playing in the Nigerian league provides more opportunities.

He stated that every team in Nigeria has junior and women’s teams, and they regularly invite scouts to come and scout for talent.
