Security analyst Adib Saani has commended the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, for swiftly preventing what could have become a national disaster in Kpandai.
The consultant stated that an alleged robbery attack on a resident by two people suspected of being Fulanis spurred other attacks in the region, which could have resulted in the deaths of several people if not for the IGP’s prompt action.
Speaking in an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mr. Saani said he received a distress call from the area informing him of tension in the area.
The house of the Chief of the Fulanis was also attacked and set ablaze by an irate youth following the alleged robbery attack.
Narrating what happened, Mr. Saani said a Kpandai resident who was on his motorcycle was attacked, robbed, and left with multiple knife wounds.
His attackers allegedly fled after attacking him.
But in a reprisal attack, an irate youth stormed the residence of the Fuanli chief with the aim of attacking him.
But he managed to escape to a nearby police station.
However, a 90-year-old man and a minor got trapped in the house after the rest of the occupants fled and left them behind.
The IGP, Mr. Saani, said quickly coordinated and deployed officers to the scene to prevent further attacks.
A suspect was later arrested and kept in police custody.
But the enraged residents would have none of it, and went to the police station to launch an attack on officers by throwing stones at them.
According to Mr. Saani, the police had no option but to release the suspect since keeping him in custody would have escalated the situation.
Later, the Kpandai youth went on a rampage, attacking Fulanis in the area, and it took the intervention of a military and police backup to maintain law and order in the area.
He said, but for the timely intervention of the IGP in coordinating and deploying men to the scene, we would have witnessed a national disaster on our hands.
