Ghana is facing an economic crisis, but our economic record is superior to Mahama’s – Bawumia

July 9, 2024
Mahama-and-Bawumia

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia admits that Ghana is experiencing an economic crisis, but he feels the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) accomplishments far outweigh those of former President John Dramani Mahama.

The NPP’s presidential candidate, the second gentleman of the nation, claimed that the party has fared extraordinarily well in each sector.

Future borrowing must deliver economic value and protect debt sustainability – Ato Forson

The upcoming December presidential and parliamenatry elections, he noted, are about a choice, and it is between former President John Dramani Mahama and himself.

“That’s the choice. A choice between the future and the past. He was once president and failed. I have never been elected president. I am the Vice President, and since our history began in 1957, no Vice President has performed as exceptionally as I have. It is about the choice of digitization or chickens. I want to introduce several policies. We have achieved a lot under very trying circumstances under President Akufo-Addo. The outbreak of COVID and the Russian-Ukraine war had an impact on us. But at least as the Chairman of the Economic Management Team, I can state without any fear of contradiction that NPP’s performance in the economy is far superior to John Mahama’s. We will talk about our records.

They (NDC) don’t want to talk about records. We will talk about records. We are superior to the NDC. Agricultural growth, we performed better; industrial growth, we performed better; job creation,  we performed better; roads, we performed better; hospitals, we owfeed better; classrooms, we performed better; railways, we performed better; court buildings, we performed better; fish landing cites, we performed better; digitization, Ghqna card, mobile money interoperability, we performed better. We have performed better in several areas.

“It is clear that, as far as the economy is concerned, we have challenges. But when you put our record against John Mahama’s record, our record is superior. We will challenge them any day to bring their record to every sector. But I want to bring in my own vision to build on the record in Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. To build on that record, I want to introduce a new vision.

In the last speech I delivered at the UPSA, I set out a new vision for Ghana. Our manifesto will be launched next month, and after it is launched, Ghanaians will see the details of the new vision I am talking about.”
