President Akufo-Addo has expressed confidence in running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, describing him as effective and efficient.
According to him, he made him his director of elections in 2012 because he saw something positive in him.
He credited him for executing the free senior high school policy and also commended him for the exploits he chalked up at the Energy Ministry.
“In 2012, I appointed NAPO as my director of elections. I did so because I knew he was efficient and effective. I had seen in him something unique several years ago. And so when I won the elections in 2016, I appointed him as the Education Minister to execute the free SHS policy. The free SHS policy is the biggest legacy of the NPP government, and so I wanted him to execute the policy.
I knew he could do it, and he has performed beyond expectations. He has executed the policy to the point that former President John Dramani Mahama has taken credit for the implementation of the policy.”
After I won the 2020 elections, I appointed him the Energy Minister, and he has distinguished himself there. He has managed the sector and ensured that our lights have stayed on for years. Some have claimed that Dumsor is back. But Dumsor is not back. There have been a few occasions, but there is no dumsor.”
He then appealed to Ghanaian voters to vote for the NPP, saying if there is anyone who testifies about the competencies of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, I am the one. Please listen to me and vote for them. They are the only ones who can manage the country better. The NDC and its leadership say they don’t understand why I keep saying that I cannot hand over to someone who cannot protect my legacy. I will reiterate that there is no better person to manage the country than Bawumia and NAPO. I defeated you, and so why should I hand over power to you again? It will not happen today or tomorrow.
The NDC has nothing to offer you. These are the two people (referring to Bawumia and NAPO) who have what it takes to manage the country better. Do not stay home on December 7, 2024; come out in your numbers and vote massively for them,” he said at the official outdooring ceremony of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as running of the elephant family.
