The founder and head of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM) has bluntly demanded that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh be examined psychiatrically.
Mr. Christian Kwabena Andrews, aka Osofo Kyiri Abosom, believes the running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) needs a psychiatric examination to determine if he is a sane human being.
He made the comments in relation to assertions by Dr. Opoku Prempeh that President Akufo-Addo has performed better than the late Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and other presidents.
In his first public speech after his outdooring ceremony in Kumasi on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, Dr. Opoku Prempeh said President Akufo-Addo has performed exceptionally well and has outperformed every president in Ghana’s history.
His comments have generated mixed reactions, with several individuals slamming him.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM on the issue, Osofo Kyiri Abosom asserted that only someone who is not mentally stable will make such politically irresponsible comments.
He stated that NAPO, as he is affectionately called, is known for making such foolish statements, referencing to recent comments made by NAPO that even if the NPP does not improve Kumasi and they are given T-shirts, they will still vote for the NPP.
“I think NAPO is not Ghanaian, and if he is also Ghanaian, he is not credible and candid. If he is a Ghanaian and has refused to acknowledge the achievements of Nkrumah, then I think he should have his brain examined. He needs a psychiatric examination. The electricity he is using was introduced by Kwame Nkrumah. Kwame Nkrumah is credited with several projects, like the Tema Oil Refinery. NAPO needs a serious psychiatric examination. I want to stress that point and forcefully.”
The man of God declared that the incompetent NPP will not win the 2024 general elections because they have failed woefully and so do not deserve another term.
He also appealed to the voters to consider his party since GUM is the only party with the needed skills and competencies to manage the country.
He stated that we don’t have to take these politicians seriously because they have no regard for us and are only interested in amassing wealth for themselves and their cronies.
“NAPO needs psychiatric treatment. I think he may be suffering from bipolar disorder. He and his candidate are incompetent. They lack the skills needed to manage the country efficiently. They lack experience in life. Can we count the achievements of Nkrumah? No, you cannot. That is why we have to vote against them and the NDC. NAPO was the same person who told residents in Kuamsi that even with T-shirts alone, they would vote for the NPP. The NDC does not also have what it takes to be an alternative government. That is why I am appealing to Ghanaians to help me campaign against them and vote massively for me to take over the management of the country.”
When asked if he has a personal problem with NAPO, in describing him as someone needing treatment, he said, “I don’t have any personal problems with him. I spoke my truth and expressed my opinion about what he said. If you are someone who is sane, you will not tell us that Akufo-Addo’s performance is far superior to that of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. Only mentally challenged people will make such an argument. How can you compare someone who is unable to execute the one district factory project to someone who constructed several factories?”
