The cause of death of the 24-year-old woman who was found dead in a swimming pool at a hotel in Takoradi has been attributed to drowning.
The police, in a statement, disclosed that a pathologist at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital conducted an autopsy on the body in the presence of the bereaved family and police.
The cause of death, the police statement said, was due to Asphyxia, Severe Pulmonary, Edema, and Drowning in a pool.
The Police further revealed that it received a complaint on June 8, 2024, to the effect that Lois Abena Koranteng, 24, had been found unconscious in a swimming pool at the hotel in the Western Region.
According to the police, it conducted an examination of the body, but body marks of assault were found.
The body was then deported to the mortuary, and an autopsy was conducted on July 10, where the pathologist gave the cause of death.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has extended an apology to the bereaved family after they complained of the police’s exclusion from the matter.
The IGP has since assured the family that it will involve the family going forward.
