Adib Saani, a security analyst, has responded to the failed assassination attempt on the life of former US President Donald Trump.
He termed the occurrence as regrettable and urged authorities to unite the country and prevent similar incidents in the future.
Mr. Saani heard several politicians in America opining that violence is not part of their politics, which he noted was an outright lie.
Speaking in an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the analyst stated that this was not the first time this has occurred in America.
“I have heard a number of US politicians say that violence is not part of their politics or democracy. But this is false. This is not the first time this has happened. In the past, several of these things have occurred. In 1963, John F. Kennedy was assassinated, and later it was Robert Kennedy, his brother.
We have had a number of other assassinations. For President Tom Ford, it was two assassination attempts. The last time they tried was in 1981 with Ronald Reagan. Apart from that, in the 1960s, we had other assassinations, including Martin Luther King Jr. Then, in 1980, a member of Beetles, John Lennon, was killed by David Chapman, who accused him of saying that Beetles were more popular than Jesus Christ in 1960. So he was determined to kill him right from 1960 until he did so in 1980. So assassinations are very common in politics and showbiz in America. Just recently, Nancy Pelosi’s husband was attacked by some individuals who were after Nancy Pelosi, but luckily, she was not home at the time the incident occurred.
He continued, “and so what happened in America is quite unfortunate, and I am hoping they will promote a sense of national unity and prevent this from happening again. But what do you expect in a country where guns are more than citizens? In America, you can buy guns like you buy onions in Ghana, and as a result, every single year, over 30,000 Americans are killed as a result of gun-inflicted wounds.”
Mr. Adib Saani opined that Ghana can learn useful lessons from what happened by prioritising the security and safety of our heads of state, whether current or former.
He recounted the death of former Vice President Ackah, who he said died in a dastardly accident, and a gun-wielding man who entered a church and wanted to allegedly shoot former President John Dramani Mahama.
He added that political rhetoric is a crucial thing we have to deal with since every Ghanaian has a different thought process for evaluating comments by politicians.
