EC sets the filing fee at GH¢100,000 for presidential and GH¢10,000 for parliamenatry

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced its decision to open nominations for the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections on Monday, September 9. 

The nomination period will close on Friday, September 13, 2024, a statement issued by the EC said.

The EC noted that the process is in accordance with Regulations 6, 7, and 9 of the 2020 Public Elections Regulations (C.I. 127).

Interested candidates who want to contest the elections can download nomination forms from the EC’s website starting Friday, August 2.

The filing fee for presidential candidates is set at GH¢100,000, with a reduced fee of GH¢75,000 for female candidates and persons with disabilities. 

Nomination forms will be accepted between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. and again from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day during the nomination period.

“Candidates vying for the position of President will be required to make a payment of One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢ 100,000.00) at the time of submitting their Nomination Forms. Payment shall be by Banker’s draft and addressed to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission. Female Candidates and Persons with Disabilities are required to pay Seventy-Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢ 75,000).,” an excerpt of the statement said.

The filing fee for the parliamenatry elections is GH¢10,000, with a reduced fee of GH¢7,500 for female candidates and persons with disabilities.

“Candidates vying for the position of Member of Parliament will be required to make a payment of Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢ 10,000.00) to the Returning Officer of the Constituency at the time of submitting their Nomination Forms. Payment shall be by Bankers draft and addressed to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission. Female Candidates and Persons with Disabilities are required to pay Seven Thousand and Five Hundred Ghana Cedis (GH¢ 7,500).”

“All enquiries relating to the Presidential Election should be addressed to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission and the Parliamentary Elections to the Returning Officers of the Constituencies where the Candidates seek election,” it concluded.

Meanwhile, the EC has also asked persons who want to contest the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections as independent candidates to contact the Commission for passcodes.

The passcodes will allow them to download the nomination forms.
