Former President John Dramani Mahama has asserted that President Akufo-Addo is afraid to hand over power to him because of the mess he has created.
Speaking to chiefs and queen mothers at the Bawku Naba Palace in the Upper East Region during his campaign tour, the candidate for the opposition National Democratic Congress posited that the reason why the president failed to hand over power is because he would be held accountable for his government’s actions.
The comments by Mr. Mahama come after the President described the “Agyapadie” document as a fabricated document.
Mr. Mahama also referenced the consistent comments by President Akufo-Addo to the effect that he would have overpower over an NPP candidate.
He accused the president of abusing his office and misappropriating Ghana’s wealth.
He stressed that officials of the NPP administration caught in these acts and any NDC official who engages in similar misconduct would be subject to the same consequences.
“They must be held accountable. That’s why Nana Addo says he’ll not hand over to John Dramani Mahama because he knows when I come, I’ll hold him and his family and his government accountable for what they have done.
“And so, they want their Vice President to take over from them so that he can come and cover their back. It’s not going to happen, NDC is going to win the election.”
“Those who have made the people of Ghana suffer by misappropriating the wealth of the people by abusing their office will be held accountable for what they have done.
“But I’m always quick to add that when we come into government and we appoint people into office under our government, the same measure that we met to the outgone NPP administration is the same measure we shall deal with our people if they do the same thing the NPP has done.”
