They threatened to kill us because we exposed the lies surrounding the fake funeral of late Ga Manye – Family

The family of the late Ga Manye, Naa Dedei Omaedru III, claims they have received death threats as a result of the “fake funeral” and purported funeral ceremonies conducted by the Ga Traditional Council.

Although the Ga Traditional Council planned a ceremony to lay the late Queenmother to rest, her family has denied the reports stating that the entire final ceremony was a fraud.

When questioned why they had waited so long to share their concerns, Asafoatse Nii Kotey Ga II stated that they had been threatened with death if they came out to expose the lies surrounding the funeral rites.

Asafoatse Nii Kotey Ga II, the family’s spokesperson, spoke to journalists at the Omaedro We on Thursday, August 8, 2024, to express their concerns regarding the burial ceremonies arranged by the Traditional Council last year.

He claimed that assassins were sent to try and kill them, so they had to exercise caution and avoid violence.

“They threatened to kill us.” They instructed us to remain silent and not speak out about the situation, and if you’re wondering why we didn’t speak up sooner, it was because they threatened to murder us. They said I had been dethroned because I was telling the truth. So if you didn’t hear from us when they planned that false funeral, it was because our lives were in danger and we had been threatened with death.

We expected those involved in the matter to see reason with us, but instead they organised the phoney funeral to deceive Ghanaians. But we have now revealed the truth, which is that our Queenmother has not been laid to rest.

They plotted, trailed, and wanted to kill over this matter. Our lives were in danger, and so we had to take caution because they sent assailants after us, and we could not have come out to speak during those periods. But as we speak today, the truth is ours, and we want Ghanaians to acknowledge that.”

He also revealed that they had expressed their concerns to the Chieftaincy Minister, the National Security Ministry, and other state officials, but they had been ignored, and it was shocking for them to see the President and other top officials from the Diplomatic Mission, clergy, and academia at the funeral.

He further claimed that a sum of Ghc1 million was initially offered to the family to get them to remain silent about the situation, but they refused.

“We discussed the case with the National Security Minister, Kan Dapaah, the Chieftaincy Minister, and famous lawyers from Ga State. We also visited with Council of State members, particularly those from our state. We also met with Kan Dapaah, hoping that the President had been updated on the issue. We spoke with and visited everyone who mattered, pleading for justice to be done, but our concerns were not addressed.”
