The presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has urged trainee nurses to focus on securing stable employment rather than depending on allowances.
He argued that it was important for them to have sustainable job opportunities in the health sector.
He made the remarks on Saturday while stressing that long-term employment is more beneficial than temporary allowances.
According to him, a new NDC government would put in measures aimed at creating job opportunities for nurses and other health workers.
“We know the problems with trainee nurses, and that’s why, when we were in government, we proposed replacing your allowances with student loans.
“Our goal was to create more employment opportunities for you. What matters most is securing a job after you finish school, not just the allowance,” Mahama said.
To him, “This election is between Ghana and the NPP.”
Meanwhile, he has also pledged to complete hospital projects that were abandoned by the current administration, as well as finish the Agenda 111 hospitals.
This, he added, will help create more employment opportunities for healthcare professionals.
