Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its presidential candidate.
The Vice President noted that the opposition is fond of criticising any new initiative proposed by the ruling government.
Dr. Bawumia stated that everytime the NPP develops and commits to implement a policy, the NDC goes around informing Ghanaians that it is impossible.
The candidate reiterated his pledge to add 2,000 megawatts of solar power to Ghana’s energy mix if elected president.
He stated that his goal is to add 2,000 megawatts of solar power to the power generation system, which would account for more than half of our current electricity use. So, when combined with Akosombo, the cost of electricity might be reduced by about 50%.
“The NDC cannot appreciate or think about this vision, and so they keep telling us that it is not possible. But I want to tell them that it is possible. When we took over power, we pledged to register and issue Ghanaians with Ghana cards. The NDC told you we could not do it. But have we not done it? We have issued 18 million Ghana cards. Every Ghanaian now has a Ghana card. When you travel around the world, including China, Saudi Arabia, Japan, the UK, Cameron, and others, when you misplace your passport, you can use your Ghana card to board a plane.”
He then took on former President John Dramani Mahama, describing him as a ‘honeymoon’ president.
“We all saw the performance of former President John Dramani Mahama. He was incompetent. He was the one who likened our economy to a meat which had been consumed and left with the bones. It was because of the bones that the distribution of chalk to our schools became a challenge, it was the same bones that led to the scrapping of the teacher and nursing training allowance. We slept in dumsor for four years. Teachers worked for three years and were paid three months.
He was the same person who told the unemployed youth that he was not a magician to give them jobs. We complained of hardship and his response was that he was a dead goat. He can only be president for four years. So when you vote for Mahama, it would be a bye-bye and will no longer come here, he will be going on retirement and so you will not see him again. He is going on retirement and so he will not be accountable.”
