The National Peace Council has expressed strong optimism that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will sign the peace pact ahead of the December polls, despite the conditions the party has outlined.

Speaking to journalists in Accra, the Chairman of the National Peace Council, Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, said despite the conditions the party gave before committing to the pace pact, he was hopeful they would eventually sign.

The National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, at a meeting with the leadership of the Peace Council, outlined six conditions under which it will sign the peace pact.

He, among other conditions, called for the recommendations in the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election probe to be implemented.

Chair of the Peace Council beleives “The NDC has not said categorically that they won’t sign. They have given out some grievances and we will meet with them and we will talk about those things and then we will resolve them.

“I don’t think that it is something that we should split our heads over. Our doors are always open. We work with the parties, we talk with them. And so we listen to them, we find a way to talk and find solutions to some of these grievances.

“The ones that are within our capacity, we will do them. Some of them are not within our control and there is nothing that the Peace Council itself can handle. We hope that they will sign.”
