The Ministry of Education has released fifty million (GHC 50 million) to the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to support the conduct of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to the Ministry, the release of the money reaffirms the government’s commitment to fulfilling its financial obligations to WAEC, ensuring that the Council’s operations continue without interruption.
Spokesperson for the Ministry, Kwaku Kwarteng, speaking to the issue, said when it comes to the conduct of these exams, it is always WAEC, which has been facilitating it, while the government absorbs the full compliment of fees that the students are supposed to pay when it comes to the exams.
Mr. Kwarteng said, “So consequently, at every point, the government releases monies to WAEC to enable them to carry out their operations so far as these exams were concerned. It is in this regard that the government has released an amount of GHC 50 million to WAEC this week. This disbursement again reaffirms the government’s commitment to fulfilling the financial obligations to WAEC and, of course, to ensuring that the Council’s operations continue without any interruption.
He reassured all stakeholders, especially students, parents, guardians, and the general public, of government’s dedication to sustaining an environment that fosters seamless, efficient, and high-quality education for all Ghanaian students.
