Godfred Yeboah Dame, Attorney General and Minister of Justice, has appealed to prominent global players in the fight against cross-border economic and financial crimes to intensify cooperation to combat this growing global phenomenon.
The Minister asserted that the global community’s survival is contingent upon the effectiveness of collaborative strategies between justice partners in tackling global crime.
He made the remarks as the keynote speaker at the 41st Cambridge International Symposium on Economic Crime at the Jesus College, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.
“Bearing in mind the motives and modus operandi of the perpetrators of financial crime, far-reaching institutional reform in the form of the building of a strong legal framework has been deliberately undertaken by the Republic of Ghana to trace the assets of criminals and ensure that wrongdoers do not profit from the crimes they commit.
“I refer to the Economic and Organised Crimes Office Act of 2011, which was passed to establish the Economic and Organised Crimes Office (EOCO) as an agency to prevent and detect organised crime as well as to facilitate the confiscation of the proceeds of crime.”
