Dr. Clement Apaak has slammed the government’s New Patriotic Party for its decision to deploy military personnel to go after grain smugglers when the issue of galamsey is threatening national life.

The lawmaker who represents the Builsa South constituents said it is only a rackelss and senseless government that will engage in such an activity.

The MP had already raised concerns over the devastating effects of galamsey and its national security threats.

In a tweet on X, formerly, Twitter, he opined that it would be prudent for the government to prioritise the issue of illegal mining by assigning the soldiers to deal with it instead of deploying them to go after grain smugglers, which to him is a politically motivated activity.

He said the reason why the government has failed to do this is because it is benefiting directly from the illegal mining activities, which have destroyed our water bodies and forest reserves and are threatening human health.

He further described the government fight against Galamsey as a hoax and asked Ghanaians not to retain the NPP on the December 7 elections since that will help upgrade illegal mining and worsen the effects of it.

He stressed that the only alternative and the man with the commitment to fighting galamsey is former President John Dramani Mahama

His tweet read “The corrupt, useless, and reckless Akufo-Addo/Bawumia NPP gov’t would rather deploy the military to chase phantom grain smugglers than deploy the military to deal with the galamsey menace. Then again, what do you expect from a government/party that is profiting from the destruction of our forests and the pollution of our water bodies via illegal mining? Is it not evident that the so-called fight against illegal mining by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia NPP government is a hoax? A vote for DMB/NPP is a vote to upgrade the galamsey menace. Let’s rescue and reset Ghana for our collective good. The alternative is the only option. Vote JDM/NDC.”
