The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has annulled the Amenfi Central parliamentary primary that was held on May 13, 2023.
This was contained in a statement issued by the party’s general secretary, Fifi Kwetey, on Thursday, September 5, 2924.
The party, in assigning the reason behind its decision, said the election has been the subject of litigation at the High Court in Sekondi.
The Chief Scrive of the party stated that the Functional Executive Committee of the party, at its meeting on Tuesday, 3rd September 2024, therefore decided to annul the election and rerun the same.
“In the reliefs (c), (d) and (e) of the Plaintiffs’ action, they seek from the court, the annulment of the parliamentary primary election result and an order for rerun of the election,” he added.
“Accordingly, the Parliamentary primaries conducted on the 13th May 2023 in Amenfi Central have been annulled forthwith. The party has decided to open fresh nominations for the conduct of the primaries in Amenfi Central Constituency,” he stated.
Nominations will be opened on Friday, September 6, 2024, and will be filed on Saturday, September 7, 2024. Vetting and appeal will also take place on Saturday and the election will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2024.
