The presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has described the compensation awarded to victims of the Techiman South shooting incident as inadequate.
He believes the court should have awarded them much more.
The comments from the former President follow the order by the Wenchi High Court to the state to pay GH¢270,000 to six individuals who were injured during a shooting incident at the Techiman South collation centre during the 2020 elections.
But speaking at a mini rally in Twimia Nkwanta in the Bono East Region, Mahama promised to provide additional compensation to the victims of the shooting incident if he is elected as the next president.
“The compensation given to the victims, I was thinking it would be more than the 275,000 cedis, but I acknowledge the court’s decision. However, when the NDC comes to power, we’ll ensure to provide necessary assistance to the victims.
“Also, we would investigate the matter and ensure the perpetrators are brought to book and face the law. Also, those who lost their lives, we’ll compensate their families.”
