The presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has submitted his nomination forms at the headquarters of the Electoral Commission.
He submitted the forms today, Monday, September 9, 2024, at the headquarters of the Electoral Commission (EC).
He was accompanied by his wife Samira Bawumia, his running mate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and his wife Alma Pokua Adade-Prempeh.
Party executives, including the National Chairman, Stephen Ntim, General Secretary Justin Koduah Frimpong, Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and other leading members of the NPP, are also at the EC to provide support and solidarity.
The Chairperson of the EC, Mrs. Jean Mensa, received the Vice President and his entourage at the headquarters.
In her address, the EC Chair stated that this was the first time a sitting Vice President has personally submitted the nomination forms to the EC, saying, ‘’It is therefore an honour to receive you this morning.
Mrs. Jean Mensa said the submission of the forms was one of the most important processes in the lead-up to the December 7, 2024 general elections.
She noted that without the filing of the forms, the EC cannot organise the general elections.
The Commissioner said regulations seven of C.I. 127 enjoin a presidential candidate to complete and sign four copies of the nomination forms.
Additionally, the forms are to be signed by not less than two persons who are registered voters in the area of authority of each district assembly.
Dr. Bawumia in his response after submitting his forms commended the EC and its staff for their work.
He extended gratitude to God for the opportunity, describing the filing of his forms as a very historic opportunity for him to submit the forms in person.
He asked for prayers for Ghana so we will continue to experience a violence-free election, saying the process is for us to uplift the country and not to tear it down.
He said it is very important for the country to be uplifted after the entire electoral process, adding that we need to pray for the EC because they are doing a very difficult job, especially when they become a scapegoat for those who lose the election.
