Presidential candidate of the opposition All People’s Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga, has announced that he will only seek one term if he wins the 2024 presidential election.
According to the founder and leader of the PAC, he will not seek a second term if he finishes his first term after he has been sworn-in as president.
Mr. Ayariga said he does not need two terms to transform Ghana with his policies.
He disclosed this while addressing delegates of the party at the outdooring ceremony of the party’s running mate, Rev. Worlanyo Mensah, on September 4, 2024.
This was after the running mate had also told the supporters that after Hassan Ayariga finishes serving his term, he was sure of taking over from him.
The economist told the party supporters that growing up he had the desire of becoming a banker, an ordained reverend, and then a president of Ghana.
He mentioned that he has fulfilled his ambitions of becoming a banker and an ordained minister, with his presidential election being the sole remaining objective.
He claimed he did not need two terms to transform Ghana as president, adding that a leader who is committed to transforming Ghana will need not more than four years to develop the country, especially if the person is not materialistic.
He said, ‘’After we finish helping Dr. Hassan Ayariga to become president, the next president will be Rev. Worlanyo Mensah. The target is not about becoming president, but the target is about making an impact’’.
The candidate in response said, ‘’You see, he said (he will become president) after me. I will be going for only one term, and he will take the next term’’.
The running who was elated about this said that ‘’he (Ayariga) is not a selfish man. He has demonstrated it, and so I thank him in advance. I don’t need more than four years to transform Ghana. If I become president, I don’t need even more than three years to transform Ghana. The shortest way for a leader to transform a country is not to love material things. Once you love material things, there is no way you can check others’’.
