Reports coming in from Gomoa West constituency indicate that the Member of Parliament for the area, Mr. Richard Gyan-Mensah, has pulled a gun during an exercise to hand over the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) essential equipment to the district.
The District Chief Executive for the district, Mr. Baafi Nkoom, had organised a ceremony that saw the attendance of chiefs and locals to witness the official commissioning of the equipment.
Reporting from the area, Rainbow Radio’s Oheneba Ademah disclosed that while a man of God was praying to officially start the ceremony, some ‘macho men’ who were reportedly affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) stormed the event grounds, alleging that the posters of the Vice President and the DCE and parliamentary candidate had been pasted on the equipment.
He said the ‘macho men’ lamented that the posters on the equipment were not the best since the equipment was a national property and not a political party property.
They then requested to be allowed to also paste their posters on the equipment, a situation that led to confrontations where the MP pulled a gun and allegedly hit an NPP branch communications officer who started bleeding.
He added that the followers of the MP also joined in attacking the said victim.
Oheneba Ademah further reported that although the police were present, they did not intervene in the matter.
He said the MP did not fire any warning shots but hit the NPP MP member in the forehead, following which the NPP member has sustained injuries all over his body.
Our reporter noted that the incident occurred in the presence of Obrempong Nyamfo Krampah, the Ajumankomanhene.
The traditional ruler and his elders, he said, were disappointed in the matter.
The police have since intervened and begun investigating the matter, but no arrest was made as the MP and the NDC members fled the scene.
The DCE has also described the behaviour of the MP as thuggish and called on the police to arrest him for pulling a gun in public.
