The Paramount Chief of the Goaso Traditional Area in the Ahafo Region, Nana Kwasi Bosomprah, has admonished the Electoral Commission to accept the call for a forensic audit into the voter register.
He specifically called on the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, to address all the issues raised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding discrepancies in the voters’ register.
The traditional ruler believes the call for a forensic audit was nothing the EC must reject since it will further enhance their integrity should it emerge that the concerns raised by the NDC were false.
He advised the EC not to take an entrenched position on the matter if it has nothing to hide.
‘’I would advise the EC to allow an independent body to conduct a forensic audit into the register. The EC chairperson should not remain adamant in refusing the request by the NDC. She should heed the call for the audit to be conducted. Ghana is a peaceful country, and we must do everything possible to guard that peace, stability, and democracy. We are appealing to her to consider the audit. If they allow the audit and there is nothing wrong with the register, it will further enhance the credibility of the EC.
I, however, believe there is something the EC is hiding, hence their refusal to allow for an independent body to conduct the forensic audit. If there is nothing to hide, the EC will not refuse the suggestion for the forensic audit. I am speaking in the capacity of Goasomanhene. The request for a forensic audit is not something difficult to do. We have registered our names and have all admitted there are discrepancies in the register. I am therefore challenging the EC chair to allow for the audit. The register is fraudulent with irregularities and needs deliverance,’’ the chief added.
