Former Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has assured Ghanaians the December 7 general elections would not affect the work of the Constitution Review Consultative Committee.
His assurance follows concerns raised by some individuals over the committee’s work and the upcoming elections.
He said that the Committee, which was set up by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and tasked with gathering ideas on how best to review the 1992 Constitution, will continue with their work despite the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.
“I have heard people opine that in an election year, there is not much that can be done when it comes to constitutional amendment. With the greatest respect, I beg to differ. All the amendments to the 1992 Republican Constitution happened in 1996.
“After the election in November and December, all the amendments happened in 1996, after the presidential and general elections. So I believe that we will not be stopped by time to do the consultation we intend to continue.”
